The first time I saw "Crazy Eyes Depp" in the Alice in Wonderland trailer was marked by a night of fitful slumbah. I kept picturing his crazy eyes coming at me and feeling confusion... that bone structure = hot. But those eyes?? Those eyes = CRAZY.
I was scared. I had a hard time believing I'd ever drum up the courage to see the film upon its release. I know you just read that last sentence and thought, "no way!! This from the girl who so expertly portrayed Tweedle Dee in Mount Wachusett Community College's 1992 Summer Drama Camp production of Alice in Wonderland??"
Yes. I KNOW. Yes... I was THAT scared. But I knew I had to persevere... I had to conquer my fear of Johnny Depp's crazy eye contacts... so I made myself stare at the movie poster in an actual AMC movie theatre. I tried to drown out the thoughts that opened doors to panic. Thoughts like,
"Why are his hands so dirty??"
"What are all those hat pins for??"
"Why does he have a gap between his two front teeth like Elijah Wood??"
"Why do his eyes seem like portals into my darkest nightmares??"
"Why are his GODDAMN HANDS SO GODDAMN DIRTY??"
... and I tried to de-sensitize myself. When you can't give things funny names or learn how the Winchester boys would "handle" it... then all you can do is face it. Face it and don't get too cocky and think you can see this movie in 3-D. It's not going to happen.
