What Things Are... vol. 6

BONNET HOTTIES

What's a Bonnet Hottie?
I'm so glad you asked... let me break it down for you:
My friend Stefania calls period piece movies (see any movie adapted from the work of Austen, Shakespeare, Dickens, etc.) "bonnet films". The hot men in some of these films are then referred to as "bonnet hotties".
There are universal bonnet hotties for those that only dabble in bonnet films (like Colin Firth in 1995's Pride and Prejudice) and for the rest of us... who have been watching period piece movies on Masterpiece Theatre with her Mom since 1992, our bonnet hottie list is a little longer...

Without further ado...

As a general rule, every single Mr. Darcy in any adaptation of Pride and Prejudice is a bonnet hottie. It's just common sense and good manners.
Also, my two favorite incarnations of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy are Matthew MacFadyen in the 2005 film and Eliot Cowan in 2008's Lost in Austen.

My friend Jo wrote a blog about her favorite bonnet hotties and even created this super fancy graphic to pair with her musings:

I agree with all of her sentiments, but I have a few more on my list.
MY favorite bonnet hotties (in no particular order) include:

Tom Riley as Mr. Wickham in Lost in Austen

Charlie Hunnam as Nicholas Nickelby in Nicholas Nickelby

JJ Feild as Henry Tilney in Northanger Abbey

Simon Woods as Mr. Bingley in Pride and Prejudice

Alessandro Nivola as Henry Crawford & Jonny Lee Miller as Edmund Bertram in Mansfield Park

BONNET HOTTIE FOOTNOTE:

Upon my research, I discovered there is one movie that will give you the biggest bang for your bonnet hottie buck. That movie is 2002's The Four Feathers...

... featuring (from L - R):
Kris Marshall as Edward Castleton aka Vicar
Rupert Penry-Jones as Tom Willoughby
Heath Ledger as Henry Feversham
Wes Bentley as Jack Durrance
Michael Sheen as William Trench
